Since the introduction of mandatory superannuation in Australia, the long-term objective of the government has been to eliminate the need for age pensions by ensuring that every taxpayer has sufficient superannuation to become a self-funded retiree. Superannuation funds are available for retail investors, while Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSF’s) provide taxpayers with the autonomy to oversee and manage their own super fund.
In an SMSF, up to six members can serve as directors. Typically, couples form their own super fund and invest together as this allows them to have a common investment strategy that caters to their retirement needs and risk profile.
SMSF’s provide individuals with the ability to invest in a wide range of assets, in particular property, which is not feasible in a retail fund.
SMSF’s are not for everyone, it is not for people that want to set and forget. You must be involved and active. It does not mean you have to do everything on your own, however, you are responsible to ensure it gets done.
For investors who wish to set up an SMSF or have an existing SMSF, we provide a range of services including the initial set up, registration with ATO and ASIC, preparing annual financial statements and tax return and the investment strategy review. We maintain a focus on compliance, assisting our clients in remaining up-to-date and adhering to regulations.
